  • Product and origin cost per piece
  • Documentation cost and order quantity
  • Target margin and INR/USD exchange rate

Calculation method

Calculate garment FOB price per piece in INR and USD from product cost, origin charges, documentation, order quantity, margin and exchange rate.

Method: FOB price = (product cost + origin cost + documentation per piece) ÷ (1 − margin %)

Worked example: FOB price for a 1000-piece order

Product cost is ₹300 per piece, origin cost is ₹20, documentation is ₹10,000, margin is 20% and exchange is ₹88/USD.

  1. Allocate documentation as ₹10 per piece, giving an FOB cost of ₹330 per piece.
  2. Divide ₹330 by 0.80 to get an FOB selling price of ₹412.50 per piece.
  3. Divide by ₹88/USD to quote about $4.69 per piece, or about $4,687.50 total.

What costs are normally included in a garment FOB quote?
