  • Order quantity and approved consumption
  • Shrinkage and cutting allowances
  • Rejection allowance and fixed extra fabric

Calculation method

Calculate fabric kilograms to order from garment quantity, base consumption, shrinkage, cutting waste, rejection allowance and fixed extras.

Method: fabric to order = quantity × consumption + shrinkage + cutting waste + rejection allowance + fixed extras

Worked example: fabric order for 1000 pieces

Approved consumption is 0.20 kg per piece with 5% shrinkage, 3% cutting waste, 2% rejection and 10 kg fixed extra.

  1. Net fabric is 1,000 × 0.20 kg = 200 kg.
  2. Percentage allowances add 10 kg + 6 kg + 4 kg = 20 kg.
  3. Add 10 kg fixed extra to order 230 kg, or an adjusted 0.23 kg per piece.

Frequently asked questions

Should allowances be added to base consumption?

Yes, when the approved consumption excludes known shrinkage, cutting loss or quality replacement. Avoid adding the same allowance twice.

Should every colour use the same allowance?

Not necessarily. Minimum dyeing lots, shade continuity, test requirements and colour-specific rejection history can change the required extra quantity.

Are the percentage allowances compounded?

This calculator applies each percentage to net fabric. If your company compounds allowances or applies them at different stages, adjust the inputs to match that policy.
