Calculation method

Estimate working capital, funding days and finance cost for a garment export order using costs, lead times, buyer credit and advances.

Method: finance cost = funding required × annual interest rate × funding days ÷ 365

Worked example: export-order funding need

Material, conversion and overhead total ₹800,000, the buyer advances ₹100,000, funding lasts 110 days and annual interest is 12%.

  1. Funded cost is ₹800,000 and net funding required after advance is ₹700,000.
  2. Funding days combine material lead, production and buyer-credit periods.
  3. Finance cost is ₹700,000 × 12% × 110 ÷ 365, or about ₹25,315.

Frequently asked questions

Why include buyer credit days?

The exporter continues funding the order after shipment until payment is received, unless receivables are discounted or financed separately.

Does this replace a bank working-capital assessment?

No. It is an order estimate and does not include every banking fee, margin requirement, tax timing or currency exposure.

Should supplier credit reduce funding days?

Yes, when it is contractually available. Adjust the timing inputs or net funding requirement to reflect when supplier payments are actually due.
